3.74 lakh panchayats and 40 thousand voters in urban bodies to cast votes: DC

A total of 3,74,941 voters will exercise their franchise in the elections to be held in 245 gram panchayats of district Una and 6 urban bodies. Giving this information in a press conference today, Deputy Commissioner Una Raghav Sharma said that 1,88,538 male and 1,86,403 female voters will cast their votes in the district Una panchayats.
He said that there are 1555 wards in 245 gram panchayats of the district and a polling station has been built in each ward. He said that panchayat elections will be held in three phases on January 17, 19 and 21. 562 polling parties will be sent for the first phase election, 524 in the second phase election and 469 for the third phase election.
Raghav Sharma said that 2248 employees will be involved in the electoral process in the first phase, 2096 in the second phase and 1876 in the third phase. Apart from this, around 2500 security personnel will also be on duty to conduct a fair election. Panchayat elections will be held on the ballot.
The Deputy Commissioner said that there are 3 Municipal Councils and 3 Nagar Panchayats in District Una, for which votes will be cast on 10 January. He said that 20,077 male voters and 20,028 female voters will exercise their franchise in urban bodies’ elections. A total of 53 polling stations have been set up to conduct the elections to the urban bodies and elections will be held through EVMs. He said that EVMs would be dispatched in the first week of January and two EVMs would be provided for each polling booth.
Raghav Sharma said that in view of the corona epidemic, this time the number of reserve polling parties has been increased to 15 percent, so that there is no obstruction if someone gets corona infected. He has appealed all the candidates for the election to follow the Covid-19 guidelines.
