Governor’s Inaction on University Amendment Bill Betrays Public Trust, CM Should Take Action
The people of Himachal Pradesh deserve a Governor who will put their needs first.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Governor has allegedly been delaying signing off on important education laws and granting approvals, causing significant problems for students, teachers, staff, and their families.
For example, the University Amendment Bill passed by the HP Assembly has been lying pending for about a month because the Governor has not signed off on it and selection process of regular vice Chancellor’s is lying pending for the reasons best known o the Governor.
The selection process of Vice Chancellors in other universities in Himachal is also considered suspicious, as the Governor is allegedly ignoring the Himachal Government, which has been elected by its people, and Himachal’s interests by selecting his own people from outside the state.
The Governor of a state plays a pivotal role in upholding the principles of their office, primarily centered around safeguarding the welfare and interests of citizens.
However, when a Governor’s deliberate inaction and unnecessary delay jeopardize the well-being of students, teachers, staff, and countless others, it not only erodes public trust but also raises questions about the very essence of their role.
In Himachal Pradesh, significant sums of taxpayer money are expended on maintaining the Governor’s office.
This funding is intended to facilitate the efficient functioning of the state’s administrative machinery, including educational institutions. When these funds are allocated but fail to deliver the expected results due to a Governor’s obstinacy or grudge, it amounts to a misuse of public resources.
Moreover, a Governor’s duty transcends political considerations, and they are accountable to the citizens of the state.
By wilfully obstructing critical legislation or processes that directly impact educational institutions, the Governor undermines their own standing and the public’s trust in their ability to fulfill their responsibilities as a responsible and unbiased representative of the state. It is a disservice to the very essence of their role, which should always prioritize the welfare and progress of the people.
A Governor’s actions, or lack thereof, can have a profound impact on the lives of students, teachers, staff, and their families. For example, if a Governor delays signing off on legislation or approvals related to educational institutions, it can lead to disruptions in academic activities, delayed salaries, and other hardships.
This can have a cascading effect on the entire education system, compromising the quality of education and the future prospects of students.
It is crucial to remember that a Governor’s position is not a political one. They are appointed by the President of India to serve as the constitutional head of the state and to uphold the principles of democracy and good governance. When a Governor acts in a partisan manner or allows their personal biases to dictate their decisions, it undermines the integrity of their office and betrays the trust of the people.
The role of a Governor is especially important in a state like Himachal Pradesh, where education is a top priority. The state has made significant progress in recent years in expanding access to education and improving the quality of teaching-learning. However, these gains can be easily jeopardized if the Governor fails to discharge their duties responsibly.
It is time for the Governor of Himachal Pradesh to reflect on their role and to recommit themselves to serving the best interests of the people. They must act swiftly to approve critical legislation and processes related to educational institutions and ensure that the state’s education system is able to function efficiently and effectively. By doing so, they can regain the trust of the public and fulfill their constitutional obligations as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
The Governor of a state is a very important person. Their job is to make sure that the state is run well and that the people are happy. But what happens when the Governor doesn’t do their job?
This is not fair to the people of Himachal Pradesh. They deserve a Governor who will do their job and make sure that the state is run well.
The Governor’s job is not to play politics. Their job is to serve the people. When the Governor delays signing off on important laws and approvals, it shows that they are not doing their job.
The people of Himachal Pradesh deserve a Governor who will put their needs first. They deserve a Governor who will make sure that the state’s education system is strong and that their children have the opportunity to succeed.
