Rotary Club of Dharamshala Organizes Talk on Polio for World Polio Day at Govt Primary School Mant Shyamnagar

Dharamshala, October 24, 2023 — Today, the Rotary Club of Dharamshala, under the leadership of Secretary Hari Singh, organized an informative talk on Polio to commemorate World Polio Day. The event took place at the Government Primary School Mant Shyamnagar, where Dr. Rimjhim Bersain, MD Pediatrics, served as the main speaker.

Dr. Rimjhim Bersain addressed the students, highlighting the critical importance of understanding the dangers posed by Polio. She emphasized that Polio is a debilitating and life-threatening disease, known to affect the brain and spinal cord. However, she also underlined that Polio is entirely preventable through the administration of the Polio vaccine.

As part of the event, a general health checkup was conducted for students in classes 1st through 5th. Medicines were provided to address various health needs, including calcium syrup, tablets, B-complex syrup, albendazole syrup, vitamin D syrup, and levocetirizine syrup.

President Shri Tej Singh expressed his gratitude to Dr. Rimjhim Bersain, Rtn. Sangram Guleria, Rtn. Er. K. G. Sood, and Rtn. Hari Singh for their valuable contributions to the event. He also extended his thanks to the dedicated teachers of the Government Primary School Mant Shyamnagar for their support and cooperation.

This event not only raised awareness about the significance of Polio prevention but also served as a testament to the Rotary Club of Dharamshala’s commitment to community health and well-being.

World Polio Day is observed worldwide to raise awareness and funds for the global eradication of Polio, a disease that once affected millions but has been significantly reduced through the efforts of organizations like Rotary International.
