An Exclusive Interview with
Dr. V.K. Yadav, Principal of DAV School Palampur :
Rajesh Suryavanshi : Dr. V.K. Yadav ji, thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. Can you tell a little bit about yourself and your background?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: Certainly! I was born and raised in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a city known for its rich history and contribution to the Indian freedom struggle.
My venerable (beloved) parents, Shri Ram Charan Lal Yadav and Smt. Urmila Yadav, instilled in me the values of hard work and dedication.
I completed my entire education in Shahjahanpur, earning my BSc, MSc, and BEd degrees from colleges affiliated with Rohilkhand University.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: When and where did you start your career in education?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: My journey began in July 1988 at the DAV School located in the township of the NTPC thermal power project in Unchahar, Raebareli district, Uttar Pradesh. I taught for 13 years at this school, first as a TGT and then as a PGT. In 2001, I moved to Himachal Pradesh to serve as the Principal of the DAV School in Chamba. Finally, in 2005, I took up my current position as Principal of the DAV School in Palampur.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: Among all these places, where have you had the most fulfilling experience and why?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: Without a doubt, Palampur has been the most rewarding experience for me. The warm and supportive community has embraced me, allowing me to truly immerse myself in the work and see the positive impact on students. This supportive environment has fueled my passion and dedication to education.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: What are some of the core values that differentiate DAV schools from other institutions?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: DAV schools have a distinct identity. We strive to strike a balance between modern education and the rich heritage of Vedic culture, instilling values of nationalism and global citizenship. We are deeply rooted in Indian culture and philosophy, promoting the ideal of “Manubhav” – becoming the best version of oneself. Our alumni excel in various fields across the globe, demonstrating the effectiveness of our holistic approach.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: Do DAV schools promote Western culture at the expense of Indian traditions?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: Absolutely not! DAV schools firmly reject the notion of promoting Western culture. In fact, we actively cultivate our Indian heritage through daily Vedic rituals, which are a cornerstone of our educational philosophy. We believe in fostering respect for all cultures while remaining grounded in our own.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: Dr. Yadav, thank you for sharing your insights into your journey and the philosophy of DAV schools. Your dedication to education is truly inspiring.
Dr. V.K. Yadav: It was my pleasure, Mr. Suryavanshi. I am confident that DAV schools will continue to play a vital role in shaping responsible and successful global citizens while preserving our rich cultural heritage.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: Dr. Yadav, beyond academics, how do DAV schools nurture students’ holistic development?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: We offer a diverse range of extracurricular activities, from sports and debate clubs to cultural events and community service initiatives. These activities allow students to explore their talents, build teamwork skills, and develop a sense of social responsibility. We also emphasize mental and physical well-being through yoga, meditation, and regular outdoor activities.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: In your experience, how have DAV schools adapted to the evolving educational landscape?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: We constantly strive to embrace innovation while upholding our core values. We integrate technology effectively into our classrooms, providing students with digital literacy and access to global learning resources. We also focus on teacher training and development, ensuring they possess the skills and knowledge to guide students in this dynamic environment.
Rajesh Suryavanshi: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for DAV schools?
Dr. V.K. Yadav: My vision is for DAV schools to continue setting the benchmark for excellence in education, fostering well-rounded individuals who contribute meaningfully to society. We aim to expand our reach, making quality education accessible to more students, and collaborating with other institutions to share best practices and address global challenges.
