Rotary Eye Hospital Maranda Conducts Successful Eye Camp in Remote Spiti Valley
A team of medical professionals led by Dr. Sudhir Salhotra, the esteemed Director of MMS Charitable Rotary Eye Hospital Maranda, successfully conducted a follow-up eye camp on July 14th in Kaza, Spiti Valley.
This camp aimed to monitor patients who underwent surgeries during a previous camp held from June 21st to 23rd, 2024, under the leadership of Dr. Rohit Kumar, Associate Director.
The three-day camp in June saw Dr. Rohit Kumar performing multiple eye surgeries.
This humanitarian initiative was a collaborative effort between the Palampur Rotary Eye Foundation Maranda and the Spiti Valley Project Society.
The remote location of Kaza, situated at an altitude of 12,000 feet, posed significant logistical challenges.
Mr. Sunny, President of the Spiti Valley Project Society, expressed gratitude to Dr. Sudhir Salhotra and his team for their unwavering commitment to providing essential healthcare services to a region that often lacks basic medical facilities.
The camp provided comprehensive eye care, including examinations, treatments, medications, and free spectacles and goggles, benefiting over 150 patients.
Dr. Sudhir Salhotra, a renowned retina surgeon and Director of Rotary Eye Hospital Maranda, highlighted the critical need for eye care services in Spiti Valley, particularly for the elderly population who face immense difficulties accessing specialized treatment in distant cities like Chandigarh or Maranda. The foundation aims to establish a permanent eye care facility in Kaza, albeit with limited resources, to provide diagnostic and treatment services.
The successful execution of the camp was facilitated by Mr. Raghav Sharma, the young and energetic GM of Rotary Eye Hospital Maranda, who ensured the team’s safety and well-being in the challenging high-altitude environment.
This collaborative endeavor exemplifies the commitment of Rotary Eye Hospital Maranda to extending quality eye care to underserved communities and improving the lives of those in need.
