\The Athletics Paralympics, held in Paris this year, witnessed a spectacular display of resilience, grit, and determination from athletes worldwide, with Indian athletes making their mark on the global stage. The event, which saw participation from over 170 nations, was a testament to the unyielding spirit of athletes with disabilities who have overcome significant challenges to compete at the highest level.

India, with its contingent of 54 athletes, delivered one of its best performances to date, securing an impressive haul of medals across various events. Leading the charge was Devendra Jhajharia, a veteran javelin thrower who clinched his fourth Paralympic medal, a silver, with a throw of 64.35 meters in the F46 category. His remarkable consistency over the years continues to inspire a generation of athletes back home.

Sumit Antil, another javelin thrower, also made headlines by breaking his own world record with a throw of 68.55 meters in the F64 category, securing the gold medal. Antil, who had won gold in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, has cemented his place as one of the top Paralympic athletes globally.

In the women’s category, Avani Lekhara, a shooter turned track and field athlete, won a bronze in the T63 long jump event. This victory adds to her growing list of achievements and showcases her versatility across sports. Lekhara’s journey from overcoming a life-altering accident to becoming a multi-sport Paralympian is nothing short of inspirational.

The Athletics Paralympics also saw significant performances from Indian athletes in the track events. Praveen Kumar won a silver medal in the T44 high jump event, narrowly missing the gold by just 0.02 meters. His leap of 2.05 meters was a personal best and highlighted his potential for future competitions.

India’s overall performance in the Athletics Paralympics reflects the growing infrastructure and support for para-athletes in the country. With improved training facilities, better coaching, and increased awareness, Indian para-athletes are now strong contenders on the world stage, and their success in Paris is a steppingstone towards greater achievements in the future.
