HPSEBL’s Repeated Power Cuts Wreak Havoc on Maranda Market, Consumers Cry Foul*
PALAMPUR : RAJESH SURYAVANSHI
Maranda, Himachal Pradesh – In a shocking display of administrative apathy, electricity consumers in Maranda’s market area are facing unbearable hardships due to frequent power supply cuts. The area is divided between two feeders – Maranda and Sidhpur – with the latter being notoriously problematic.
Despite repeated pleas to the department, no action has been taken, leaving consumers frustrated and helpless. The situation worsened in the first week of July when a three-day power outage occurred due to tree felling, affecting half the market, including the Rotary Eye Hospital.
In a desperate bid for resolution, affected consumers, represented by the Society for Human Welfare and Mission Against Corruption, Palampur, sent a memorandum to:
1. Chief Engineer, North HPSEBL, Kangra
2. Superintending Engineer, Operation Circle HPSEBL, Kangra
3. XEN Electrical Division, Palampur
The memorandum, sent via registered post on July 10, 2024, urged the authorities to attach all Maranda market consumers to the reliable Maranda feeder. However, none of the three senior officials bothered to respond.
*CM Sukhu Urged to Intervene*
Exasperated consumers have now appealed to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to take action against the erring officials who have displayed a callous disregard for public grievances.
*Key Demands:*
1. Immediate attachment of all Maranda market consumers to the Maranda feeder.
2. Stringent action against HPSEBL officials responsible for the inaction.
3. Ensuring reliable power supply to the area.
*Consumer Reactions:*
“This is unacceptable. We pay our bills on time, but the department can’t provide basic services,” said a local businessman.
“We’re losing business and livelihoods due to these power cuts. Someone needs to be held accountable,” added a frustrated shop owner.
