CSIR-IHBT Celebrates World Environment Day

CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology celebrated Word Environment Day on 5th June, 2021 through virtual mode.The programme started with welcome address and brief introduction about Word Environment Day by Dr Shashi Bhushan, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT.
In this program, inaugural talk on “Technological solutions to Global Climate Change” was delivered by Dr Gaurav Zinta, Senior Scientist, CSIR-IHBT. In his talk he briefed about different approaches which promises environment restoration. The programme proceeded with popular talk by Dr Sanjay Kumar Uniyal, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT. He said that data on floral surveys, plant ecology, resource use patterns, species distribution etc. is of utmost importance in devising strategies for restoration of environment.
Dr Sanjay Kumar, Director of the institute delivered presidential address where he briefed about the contribution of CSIR-IHBT in conservation and restoration of the environment. He stressed upon that CSIR-IHBT through its aroma mission, is making significant contribution in restoration of unutilised lands. Further he said that through its different agro technologies, Institute has contributed in minimising the carbon foot print. Other activities including rehabilitation of endangered species, honey bees’ restoration, and value addition of non-conventional crops has also directly contributed in environment restoration. On this occasion, he also administered an oath to all CSIR-IHBT staff members, which reads “I pledge to live in harmony with the environment and strive towards restoring it”.
On this day, pollution abating plants were distributed to the CSIR-IHBT staff. Dr Bhavya Bhargav, Senior Scientist, CSIR-IHBT, briefed about the importance of pollution abating plants in minimising indoor air pollution.The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. VipinHallan, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT.
