Agnipath Scheme challenged in Delhi High Court

Avniveer Scheme has been challenged in Delhi High Court.
As per recent updates, a bunch of petitions have been listed in Delhi High Court. These petitions challenging the Agneepath Recruitment process in the armed forces are expected to be heard by Delhi High Court on July 20, 2022.
Recently, Delhi HC was hearing a 2021 petition challenging the recruitment process of Indian Navy. A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramanium were hearing the matter when Solicitor General Tushar Mehta pointed out that similar matters challenging Agnipath Scheme were pending before the HC.
It was then that it was decided to take up all Agneepath Recruitment process related petitions together and now, they are likely to be heard on July 20, 2022. Previously, another petition had challenged the Indian Air Force (IAF’s) recruitment process. The same petition raises the point that the recruitment must be done as per a 2019 notification.
Agnipath Scheme was launched by the Centre for the recruitment of youth to the armed forces – Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The youth, if recruited, would be called Agniveers and it is this scheme’s recruitment process that has been taken with a pinch of salt by many stakeholders.
Apart from Delhi High Court, some pleas have also been filed in Supreme Court challenging the Agneepath scheme. These pleas are expected to be heard soon and one of them, as per PTI reports seeks cancellation of government’s Agneepath Recruitment scheme.
