Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighters and Brave Soldiers Who Fought for Independence

Palampur, August 15:

The 77th Independence Day was celebrated with a district-level event at Gandhi Maidan in Palampur.

The program was presided over by SDM Palampur, Dr. Amit Guleria.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr. J.L. Batra, father of martyr Captain Vikram Batra, and Dr. N.K. Kalia, father of martyr Captain Saurabh Kalia.

SDM Guleria hoisted the national flag at Gandhi Maidan and received salutes from the students of the Police, NCC, NSS, Nursing, and Pharmacy colleges during the march past.

He paid homage to all freedom fighters who struggled for the country’s independence on this sacred occasion of freedom.

He also remembered the sacrifices of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the protection of the nation’s freedom.

He extended condolences to those who lost their lives due to heavy rainfall in the region.

Prior to this, SDM Guleria offered floral tributes to Major Somnath Sharma, Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Saurabh Kalia, Sudhir Walia, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Mahatma Gandhi’s statues. He also paid respects at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Kalu Di Hatti.

The event was attended by Nagar Nigam Mayor Poonam Bali, Nagar Nigam Councilors, Beopat Mandal President Surendra Sood, Nagar Nigam Commissioner Dr. Ashish Sharma, Tehsildar Sarthak Sharma, along with teachers, students, officials, and dignitaries from educational institutions.
