Indian Institute of Architects, HP Chapter awarded winners on the eve of concluding function on “Environment Awareness Drive”

Indian Institute of Architects, Himachal Pradesh Chapter in collaboration with “The School of Architecture”(RGGEC) at Kangra, concluded two weeks long campaign on Environmental Awareness on Saturday. The event was witnessed by over 300 guests through online platforms.

Chairman Ar. Nand Lal Chandel and executive committee members of the Indian Institute of Architects, Himachal Chapter were present in the event. Dr. P.P Sharma, Director/Principal RGGEC Kangra was the Chief Guest at the occasion. Under the initiative, over 100 trees were planted by students of four batches.

Various competitions like; Poem recitation, Declamation, Poster making, Short video making were held and the winners were conferred cash prizes& merit certificates by IIA, Himachal Pradesh Chapter. The event emphasized Ecosystem Restoration, Ecological Footprint and Sustainability. In hill architecture it is very crucial to design buildings that are climate responsive.

Due consideration should be given to the natural terrain of the site in planning. Local species of plants should be given preference in landscaping for sustainable development. Guest speakers shared their ideas and experience on the role of Architects in making buildings greener. Ar. Manguesh Prabhugaonkar, executive member of Indian Institute of Architects ( National Council) also shared his views on environmental conservation and vernacular architecture. The event concluded with participants taking the pledge to make the Earth a better place to live. Dr. Satish Katwal termed the event fruitful and obliged to make this drive a long term event.
