 Hopeful of getting Bulk Drug Pharma Park for the State

Pharma industries was flourishing in Himachal Pradesh due to solid foundation of industrial package provided to the State in 2003 by the then Prime Minister  Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been converting challenge of Covid-19 pandemic as an opportunity towards making India a self reliant  country.  This was stated by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while presiding over the webinar on ‘Changing Landscape of Indian Pharma Sector’ organised by Confederation of Indian  Industry (CII) from Shimla today.

Chief Minister also thanked the CII for organising this webinar on a very vital issue. He said the Covid pandemic has forced all of us to rethink and re-plan our health strategies. He said that the Union Government in the Budget for 2021-22 has made an increase of 137 percent in its allocation for the health sector.

He said that under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has effectively controlled the pandemic and today India has not become self-sufficient in fighting the virus but was exporting equipments such as  PPE kits, ventilators and N95  masks to several countries. He said that the State has an honour of having the Asia’s biggest Pharma Hub at Baddi and the credit of this goes to the Pharma companies working in the State.

He said that Himachal Pradesh has played an important role in the containing Covid pandemic. He said that during the pandemic, the State not only provided medicines to the whole country, but also delivered medicines to over 30 countries of the world.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the State Government was hopeful of getting a Bulk Drug Pharma Park for the State. He said that the State offers several incentives to the entrepreneurs such as adequate availability of land, surplus power supply, investors’ friendly policies which the investors cannot find elsewhere. He also thanked the Pharma producers of the State for making generous contribution towards the PM CAREs and CM COVID Fund.

Direct employment to about 15,000 youth of the State

Chief Minister said that the State Government has actively bid under the under the  Bulk Druk Park Scheme of the Government of India and have sent a project proposal of Rs. 1190 crore for setting up of this park on 1405 acres of land in Una district. He said that, the investment of about Rs. 8000 crores would ensure turnover of Rs. 50,000 crore. He said that this Park would also provide direct employment to about 15,000 youth of the State.

Jai Ram Thakur said that due to the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients in the State itself, the country’s dependence on foreign countries has reduced. He said that the State Government has also sent a proposal for setting up of Medical Devices Park to be built at a cost of Rs. 261 crore on 265 acres of land in Nalagarh area of Solan district.

Iinvestment of about Rs. 4000 to 5000 crores

He said that this would ensure investment of about Rs. 4000 to 5000 crores and turnover of about Rs. 20000 crores would happen and estimated 10,000 people would get employment opportunities. He said that if both these proposals of the government are successful, not only the State, but the pharma sector of the country would be immensely benefitted.

Role of the CII has been immense

Industries Minister Bikram Singh said that the role of the CII has been immense in making the Global Investor Meet organized by the State Government during the month of November, 2019 a success. He said that the State has made an unprecedented development in the industrial sector during the last fifty years. He said that during the Covid-19 pandemic the Pharma industry in the State supplied hydroxychloroquine to the several countries of the world.

‘Atamanirbhar Bharat’

Additional Chief Secretary Industries Ram Subhag Singh said the step such as production linked incentives etc has gone a long way in visualizing the dream of the ‘Atamanirbhar Bharat’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the State since the last about three years was moving towards a kind of Industrial revolution. He said that the State offers several incentives to the entrepreneurs making it a favourite hub for the investors.  He said that in the next three-four years the whole industrial landscape was bound to change with the investor friendly policies and initiatives of the State.

Joint Secretary Government of India Randeep Rinwa said that the Indian Pharma Industry has successfully supplied the world life-saving drugs during the Corona pandemic. He said that this has shown the strength of the Indian Pharma industry to the whole world. He said that credit to this goes to the each and every member of the Pharma industry of the country.

Chairman CII Dr. Dinesh Dua welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion.

Co Chairman CII B.R. Sikri, Managing Director India and South Asia Thermo Fisher Scientific Amit Chopra and President Himachal Drug Manufacturers Association Dr. Rajesh Gupta also shared their views on the occasion.
