In a major boost for healthcare in Kangra, the largest district in the state, 69 health institutions are set to receive National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification. Among them, the Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala and wellness centers in areas like Kopra and Thorabulun have already been accredited under the National Quality Assurance Program.
The Kangra Health Department is now working to include more institutions under this scheme.
Out of the 69 institutions, seven health centers will undergo national-level assessments, while 12 will be evaluated at the state level.
Following these evaluations, national teams will carry out further inspections.
In addition, nearly 50 more institutions are in the process of obtaining NQAS certification.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kangra, Dr. Rajesh Guleri, who played a key role in getting Dharamshala certified, is now spearheading this effort.
Health officials have been briefed on the importance of NQAS accreditation by the CMO, with benefits including financial aid from the Union Health Ministry, such as ₹10,000 per bed annually.
Several health and wellness centers, including those in Gopalpur’s Chachian, Nagrota Bagwan’s Baldhar and Masal, Nagrota Surian’s Dhar Kalru, and Shahpur’s Prai, have already been recognized for their performance under NQAS and will soon be assessed by national teams. Dr. Rajesh Guleri emphasized the significance of NQAS certification, stating that it will help strengthen the district’s healthcare services, providing better healthcare to residents. He also shared plans to get more institutions certified within this financial year, aiming to ensure all health centers meet quality standards. In addition to accreditation, institutions also benefit financially under the NQAS.
