Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav Sets Vision for CSIR-IHBT, Palampur : Propelling Towards New Frontiers of Scientific Excellence

Recently, I had the honor of meeting Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, the newly appointed Director of the CSIR-IHBT Palampur, to discuss his career and future perspectives.

Upon our meeting, I was struck by Dr. Sudesh’s remarkable enthusiasm, energy, dynamism, and self-reliance, all of which were reflected in his charming face.

It was evident that he possessed great confidence in his abilities and was ready to take on the challenges of his new role.

Dr. Sudesh’s positive demeanor set the stage for an engaging interview, and I eagerly awaited the opportunity to delve deeper into his thoughts and aspirations for the future.

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav has recently taken over as the Director of CSIR-IHBT (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology) in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, following the superannuation of Dr. Sanjay Kumar.

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav officially assumed his position on 9th June 2023, succeeding Dr. Sanjay who had made significant contributions to the research and development activities at the institute, earning it recognition throughout India.

CSIR-IHBT is a prestigious research and development institute in the country, dedicated to studying and harnessing the vast bioresources of the Himalayan region. The institute plays a vital role in conducting cutting-edge research, developing innovative technologies, and facilitating the sustainable utilization of the region’s biodiversity for societal benefits.

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as a Scientist-G at the Center for Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), a Government of India institute under the Department of Biotechnology located in Mohali. Additionally, Dr. Sudesh worked as a Principal Scientist at CSIR-IHBT, Palampur, from 2004 to 2016. With over 20 years of experience in the fields of science, research, and social development, he has made significant contributions to his domain.

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav has an impressive track record, having published more than 185 research papers in highly regarded international journals. He has also registered 15 patents, demonstrating his expertise in developing novel technologies. Furthermore, he has guided numerous researchers in their pursuit of Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees. His achievements and dedication to scientific excellence have earned him fellowships from prestigious institutions such as the National Academy of Sciences.

In recognition of his contributions, he has received several awards, including the CSIR Young Scientist award.

In an interview with HR Media Network, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav expressed his commitment to accelerating the research and development activities.

Good day, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav. We congratulate you on assuming the role of Director at CSIR-IHBT, Palampur. How does it feel to take on this new responsibility?

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav: Thank you. It is indeed an honor to be appointed as the Director of CSIR-IHBT, Palampur. I am excited and humbled to have the opportunity to lead such a prestigious research institute. It is a tremendous responsibility, and I am fully committed to making a positive impact and furthering the institute’s mission of scientific excellence and societal development.

RAJESH SURYAVANSH :

Can you tell us about your background and experience in the field of science and research?

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav:

Certainly. I have over 20 years of experience in the field of science, research, and social development. Prior to joining CSIR-IHBT, I served as a Scientist-G at the Center for Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) in Mohali, which is a Government of India institute under the Department of Biotechnology. Additionally, I worked as a Principal Scientist at CSIR-IHBT, Palampur, from 2004 to 2016. Throughout my career, I have published over 185 research papers in international journals and hold 15 registered patents.

I have also had the privilege of guiding numerous researchers in obtaining their Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees.

RAJESH SURYAVANSHI :

Your achievements are truly impressive. What are your main goals and aspirations as the Director of CSIR-IHBT, Palampur?

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav:

My main goal is to accelerate the research work and development activities at CSIR-IHBT. I aim to create an environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, and scientific discovery. Teamwork will be a priority as we work together to expand and develop the institute. My vision is to elevate CSIR-IHBT to the status of a premier research institution in the country. I will devote myself to advancing scientific knowledge, developing sustainable technologies, and making a positive impact on society.

RAJESH SURYAVANSH :

How do you plan to achieve these goals? Are there any specific areas of focus or strategies you will implement?

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav:

To achieve our goals, I plan to prioritize teamwork and collaboration among scientists and the entire team at CSIR-IHBT.

I believe that by working together, pooling our expertise, and fostering an environment of mutual support, we can accomplish great things.

Additionally, I will emphasize the importance of speed and efficiency in our research work, and I am even prepared to work overnight if necessary.

I will encourage the exploration of new avenues of research, particularly in the fields of metabolic engineering of plants and the development of high-quality products.

By leveraging our strengths and focusing on cutting-edge research, we can position CSIR-IHBT as a leader in these areas.

What message would you like to convey to the scientific community and the staff at CSIR-IHBT, Palampur?

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav:
