CSIR-IHBT, Palampur organized a Curtain Raiser Ceremony

Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Director, CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology welcomed the guest sand reiterated the importance of IISF. He briefed about the different research and developmental activities of the institute that has contributed significantly in catalyzing the bio-economy using Himalayan Bioresources. He also informed about the efforts made by CSIR-IHBT in promoting science throughtrainings, fairs and exhibitions, and student-teacher interaction programs like JIGYASA.

Dr. Shekhar C Mande, Secretary DSIR, and DG CSIRgave overview and significance of IISF, and emphasized the need and ways by which science can reach to the masses. He said that science is touching every aspect of our day-to-day life and development of scientific outlook should be encouraged. Dr. Ashwini Rana, President, VijnanaBharati Himachal Pradesh chapter and Associate Professor, NIT, Hamirpur, shared his thoughts on the importance of self-reliance of rural people and briefed about the principles and objectives of VijnanaBharati. The program proceeded with the keynote lectureof Dr. Anil Koul, Vice President & Head, Global Public Health & Infectious Discovery Research, Johnson and Johnson, Belgium on the topic “Role of Science and Technology in Healthcare”. He said that ancient Indian knowledge has contributed immensely to the modern Science. He shared theresearch effortsmade for the development of anti-tuberculosis drug, “Bedaquiline”. Dr.Anil Prakash Joshi, Founder, Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO) Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India, in his talk said that preserving the nature is the essence of applicationof scientific knowledge. He said that there is utmost need for ensuring the development and prosperity of the rural mass of the country. The program concluded with the vote of thanks by DrVipinHallan, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT.
