In a concerning trend observed across civil hospitals and peripheral health institutions, doctors, regardless of their specialties, are being appointed as Medical Officers.

While this decision aims to serve the interests of the general public, a debate has emerged regarding whether specialists could offer a more targeted approach in hospitals outside medical colleges.

Despite their specialized training, specialists and general duty doctors find themselves sharing equivalent responsibilities in treating patients with a diverse range of ailments.

However, in some civil hospitals, issues have arisen during the creation of duty rosters.

Several specialists have attempted to evade emergency duties like morning, evening, and night shifts, citing their on-call responsibilities.

It is important to note that even on-call duties are structured in a roster, ensuring that specialists are not burdened constantly.

A disturbing trend has surfaced where a few specialists appear to be exempted from certain duties due to internal favoritism, causing their colleagues to shoulder additional burdens. This practice has persisted for an extended period, leading to concerns about fairness and equitable distribution of responsibilities among medical professionals.

The situation has now come to the attention of higher authorities, sparking a call for a comprehensive review of duty assignments and rotations.

The demand for justice and fairness in distributing duties amongst all doctors, irrespective of their specialties, has gained traction. This issue has implications not only for the doctors themselves but also for the quality of patient care and the overall effectiveness of these health institutions.

As discussions unfold, the medical community and relevant authorities are being urged to find a balanced solution that considers both the expertise of specialists and the shared responsibilities of general duty doctors, ultimately working towards providing optimal healthcare services for the public.
