Rampant Corruption Uncovered in Flex Printing Jobs at Palampur Agri Varsity
Palampur, June 29, 2024 – A significant corruption scandal has surfaced at the Agricultural University in Palampur, where allegations of widespread malpractices in the awarding of printing contracts have come to light. These contracts, involving flex printing, boards, and other printing jobs worth crores of rupees, have reportedly been marred by corruption over several years.
The malfeasance allegedly involves the Estate Cell of the university in collusion with successive Vice Chancellors. It has been revealed that the bulk of the printing job work has been consistently awarded to a single individual operating under multiple firm names. This individual is suspected of having registered these firms under different names to create an illusion of competitive bidding, thus monopolizing the contracts and bypassing fair tendering processes.
Registered contractors of the university have raised their voices against this rampant corruption, demanding a thorough vigilance enquiry. They allege that the corrupt practices have not only resulted in massive financial losses to the university but have also compromised the quality and timely execution of these printing jobs.
One of the university contractors, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “This corruption has been an open secret for years. Despite numerous complaints, the university administration has turned a blind eye, allowing the same individual to exploit the system repeatedly. We demand an immediate and impartial investigation to hold those responsible accountable.”
The modus operandi involves the Estate Cell facilitating the repeated awarding of contracts to this favored individual, circumventing the usual checks and balances. It is suspected that kickbacks and bribes have played a significant role in securing these contracts, with estimates suggesting that the corruption could run into crores of rupees.
The scandal has severely dented the reputation of the university, once renowned for its integrity and academic excellence. Stakeholders are now calling for stringent measures to be taken against the perpetrators and for systems to be put in place to prevent such abuses in the future.
In response to the growing outcry, the university administration has promised to look into the allegations. A spokesperson for the university stated, “We are committed to maintaining transparency and integrity in all our operations. A committee will be formed to investigate these serious allegations, and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”
