Good health is a boon and a precious gift of nature. According to World Health Organization (WHO) health simply means“A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Physical health relates to the body and physical fitness leads to good body health. Good physical health can be obtained by regular exercise, proper rest, and a properly nutritious diet(balanced diet). Mental health refers to a person’s emotional(feelings) and psychological well-being. Social health defines an individual’s overall well-being. It regulates the ability to perform and maintain interpersonal relationships.
A person is considered to be healthy if he/she does not suffer from any illness of mind, body, or spirit. And if a person losses his/her health, the world losses all its charms, because only a healthy person can lead a happy and successful life. Healthy health gives comfort and happiness. Good health prevents sickness and it can be maintained in a number of ways. It includes regular exercises, yoga, meditation, healthy food, good mental health, and proper hygiene. Lacking any one of these can become a chief cause of defective health. Recently, the Government of India launched Ayushman Bharat Scheme as recommended by the National Health Policy, the aim of this scheme is to provide health cover to 10 crore families, and the proposal to set up 1.5 lakh health and wellness centers will a long way in providing. And the National Health Policy 2017, of India, has already committed the government to increase investments in the health sector to 2.5 % from 1% GDP by 2025.
Our honourable leader Mahatma Gandhi said- “It is health which is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver”. A healthy lifestyle not only changes your body, but it also changes your mind, mood, and attitude towards life.
But in today’s 21st century due to busy and distressful life, people are not able to pay full attention to their health and due to this, the quality of human life is getting worse day by day. A person’s health is adversely affected due to overwork, busyness, and stressful lifestyle. By keeping the concept of health in mind World Health Day is celebrated on 7th April every year.
The main objectives behind observing World Health Day are to provide proper healthcare service to everyone all over the world without suffering financial hardship, promote all health-related issues on a global basis. No doubt, we have made rapid footstep in spreading medical facilities all over the world, but the growth is slum sided with the rural areas lagging far behind cities.
Economic status plays a significant role in determining health outcomes. Lack of health knowledge and proper nutrition, improper sanitation, and poverty are associated with worse health outcomes. Improper nutrition or malnutrition (mainly seen in the children’s), causes various health problems such as lower immune system, nutritional deficiencies, respiratory infections, diarrhea, malaria, bone disorders, and skin infections. Even under Socialistic Principles of our Constitution mentioned raising the level of nutrition and the standard of living of people and improve public health(Article 47) and secure opportunities for the healthy development of children (Article 39). By taking note of this concept there are two main keys which are necessary for health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness programs include- Empowering Health Education(health training, medical courses and various support groups, public support etc) and other is Communication( spreading awareness about healthy behaviors for the general public, health program and fairs, newsletters, mass media action).
According to the Global Health Report- “The World Health Organization is a large health organization working under the United Nations to address health issues on a global basis. The World Health Organization has played an important role in the goal of creating a healthy world.”
Today the whole world is suffering from a deadly pandemic COVID-19 and our doctors, nurses and midwives play a major role to fight against it and remind people about the role they play in possessing the world fit and healthy.Doctors, nurses, and other health workers are acting as the frontline warriors against COVID-19 and putting their own health at risk to protect the our Nation. In, India there are endless governmental schemes like the National Ayush mission, Swasthya Raksha Programme, Poshan Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat Programme, National Rural Health Mission, National Urban Health Mission, and Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health, etc, but still few of them get chance to use these steps in this 21st century.
The millions of people in the world are struggling with different diseases, some of which suffer from TB, Anemia, Diabetes, Hypertension, AIDS, Cancer, Depression, Alzheimer’s Disease, Anxiety, etc.
There are different programs that have been initiated by the government on the occasion of World Health Day all over the world. The main motto to organize these programs is to build awareness among the general public towards different health issues and prevention of infectious(SARS, influenza, the common cold, tuberculosis (TB), Hepatitis A and B) as well as non-infectious diseases(like cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes which are not passed from person to person).
As we already know that, smoking and alcohol consumption is injurious to health because chronic alcohol and smoking abuse can weaken the immune system and causes many health hazards, but we still use to it. Even the constitution of India guarantees to prohibit the consumption of intoxicating drinks and drugs which are injurious to health(Article 47) under Gandhian Principles.
Recently health studies show, through a healthy diet, regular physical activity, avoidance of tobacco and alcohol intake, and preventive body screening timely, at least 80-83% of premature deaths from heart diseases and 42% of deaths due to cancer can be prevented. According, to World Health Organization (WHO), India ranks very high among the nations affected by the rising wave of premature deaths caused by non-infectious also known as (non- communicable) diseases, which account for 60% – 62% of all deaths in India.
In India, approximately 5.8 million people die because of diabetes and its complications, cancer, heart problems, lung diseases(like pneumonia and TB) every year. In other words, in India 1 out of 4 has risks dying from non-infectious diseases before the age of 70. And approximately, 38-39 million deaths occurred due to non-infectious diseases every year.
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) 2020, shows that diabetes is fast gaining the status of a potential epidemic in India and approximately more than 62 million people are diabetic. Our Indian government has implemented many initiatives over the past few years to improve healthcare opportunities and access in both urban slums and rural areas. Along with dietary and lifestyle patterns, there are certain environmental factors like increased air pollution, that can cause a major risk to health. According to a study, the combined effects of ambient and household air pollution caused about 7 million deaths in the year 2016, largely as a result of acute respiratory infections, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung cancer. Increased air pollution along with lowered immunity has made us prone to almost every disease.
Mental Health Matters
Nourish your mind with good and positive thoughts, peaceful things that will help us in maintaining a healthy mind and body. Meditation, yoga, or breathing exercises will help one to attain the same.
Lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating habits, stress are reasons for almost all lifestyle disorders.
Getting enough sleep every night can improve the immune function of the body, mood, and memory.
Depression affects people of all ages and groups, from all walks of life all over the world.
Healthy Hygiene
Good personal hygiene along with healthy surroundings plays a very crucial role in health like- drinking pure water, washing hands frequently and bathe regularly, wearing clean clothes, proper disposal of garbage, avoiding open defecation.
Adopting healthy practice is not just beneficial to the individual but for the society as well because a healthy community makes the nation stronger.
Healthy Fitness Vitality
Physical fitness is the indication of good health.
Physical activity of the body or exercise can improve your health and it can have immediate as well as long-term health benefits. It also reduces the risk of developing several diseases like heart problems, hormonal imbalances, etc. Regular physical activity can improve the quality of life along with increased life expectancy.
By expanding government support, energetic participation of health workers and if the public of the world will unite, we may soon be able to live a greater, a healthier and a longer vital life and ultimately fit Nation.
A healthy life is like a meditation. It will help you to attain inner peace, mental strength and stability to fight against anything in life. Start living a life that is free.
