Bairwa Stresses Smooth Water Supply and Forest Fire Control in Kangra”

Interview by Rajesh Suryavanshi with Hemraj Bairwa, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kangra

HR BAIRWA, IAS

Rajesh Suryavanshi: Sir, what steps are being taken to ensure the smooth supply of drinking water in Kangra district during this heatwave?

Hemraj Bairwa: Instructions have been issued to the Jal Shakti Department officials to ensure uninterrupted supply of potable water across all areas. In places where regular schemes are affected, water supply through tankers must be arranged so that no resident faces a crisis.

Rajesh Suryavanshi: How are you monitoring the situation in different areas?

Hemraj Bairwa: We are conducting regular virtual review meetings with Jal Shakti officials. I have directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates to hold meetings at the sub-division level as well to ensure any emerging issues are addressed promptly.

Rajesh Suryavanshi: Is there any initiative regarding the quality of drinking water?

Hemraj Bairwa: Yes, I have asked Health Department officials to take random samples of drinking water to prevent water-borne diseases, which are common in summer and rainy seasons. We are also observing Diarrhoea Control Fortnight till May 30, during which ASHA workers will conduct health checks and distribute medicines to children.

Rajesh Suryavanshi: Forest fires are also a concern in summer. What message would you like to give the public?

Hemraj Bairwa: Forests are our invaluable wealth. Public participation is crucial to control fires. People must immediately inform the Forest Department or call the emergency number 1077 if they see smoke or fire. Activities like campfires, fireworks, and burning bushes should be strictly avoided in forest areas.

Rajesh Suryavanshi: Thank you for sharing your insights, Sir.

Hemraj Bairwa: Thank you. I appeal to everyone to cooperate actively in these efforts.
