Hon’ble CHANCELLOR Sukhwinder Sukhu will appoint Vice Chancellors to HPU and Agriculture University Palampur if Ordinance passed!
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Dynamic Chief Minister could become CHANCELLOR of universities in HP replacing the Governor, after an ordinance is passed like by Chief Ministers of Tamilnadu, Kerala, Punjab, West Bengal, Bihar etc. Where all Chief Ministers are now Honourable CHANCELLORS replacing Governors, after passing an ordinance.
It is speculated that the Himachal Pradesh Sukhu government is likely to issue an ordinance soon to replace the governor as chancellor of all state universities, including Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) in Shimla, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry in Nouni (Solan) and Agriculture University in Palampur.
If the ordinance is passed, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister is likely to be appointed as the new chancellor, who, in turn would pave the way for the smooth and free hand selection of his loyalist candidates after publication of a notification in this regard, within no time.
The move to replace the governor as chancellor is seen as an attempt by the Congress government to gain control over state universities.
The governor is currently the chancellor of all state universities in Himachal Pradesh.
Once the governor is removed as chancellor, the state government can appoint vice chancellors of all state universities. This is likely to benefit the party, as Sukhu is expected to appoint loyalists to the VC posts.
