The Lok Sabha elections are just a few months away, and discussions about the election candidates have intensified. In the Mandi constituency, the BJP is considering whether to field former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur or Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who has recently shown interest in starting her political journey from the small town of Kashi in Mandi. Out of the four Lok Sabha seats in the state, only the Mandi seat is currently held by the Congress. With a change in power in the state, the possibilities of current MP Pratibha Singh or former Minister Vikramaditya Singh contesting from the Mandi seat are strong. In this context, the BJP is also preparing to field a prominent candidate in Mandi this time. This has led to discussions in political circles.
On the other hand, after the recent demise of Veer Bhadra, Kargil hero Brigadier Kushhal Thakur, who lost the by-election by just seven thousand votes, is also considering running for the Mandi seat. The BJP could see this as an opportunity to secure votes from the military families.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur was asked about Kangana on Saturday, and his response has strengthened the speculations. He stated that those who wish to contest elections make such statements. Everyone has the right to express their desire to run in elections, but the final decision regarding ticket distribution and candidate selection is made by the party. However, other ticket aspirants do not seem to agree with this approach. They believe that party workers who have served the party for years and have not contested elections should be given the opportunity to run.
Former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur does not wish to contest in the Lok Sabha elections. However, considering the party’s orders and possibilities, he has been actively touring the entire parliamentary constituency. After a recent visit to Delhi, speculations about his electoral prospects have grown deeper.
Kangana Ranaut has also expressed her intention to run in the elections recently. She may contest not only from the Mandi constituency but also from Maharashtra.
Kangana, who has roots in Mandi, is well-connected to the region. She has a house in Kullu. Kangana has always praised the Modi government, but she recently criticized the Himachal government regarding the Himachal Governor’s Relief Fund. Pratibha Singh won the Mandi seat in the by-elections under the BJP government’s rule, and Jairam Thakur was the Chief Minister at that time. At that time, Kangana’s name was also considered, but the party nominated Kargil hero Brigadier Kushal Singh from Mandi to capture the votes of the military families. However, they lost to the late Veer Bhadra Singh’s popularity, and Pratibha Singh won the elections.
