IIT Mandi to organize a School Camp on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in July

The registration is open until 15th April 2022 to all students enrolled in classes 11 and 12 at recognized schools in Himachal Pradesh. An entrance-based exam will be conducted to select students in the camp.

Mandi, 1st April 2022: The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi is organizing the summer camp on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam (HPKVN), Shimla. This summer camp, to be held in July 2022, will give students a full-fledged opportunity to learn Robotics and AI, an ever-growing field with hands-on experiments-based learning. One hundred students will get the chance to learn the fundamentals and carve out their imagination into real-life projects.

Registration is open to all students enrolled in classes 11 and 12 at recognized schools in Himachal Pradesh. Enrolments will be accepted through schools only. Individual applications will not be entertained.

An entrance test based on 10+2 level math, physics, and general aptitude will be conducted on 1st May 2022. Based on the results of this qualifying test, to be announced in the last week of May, students will be selected for the camp. Those chosen will be invited for a complete training program on the IIT Mandi campus.  During the camp, students will learn AI concepts and their application to several domains of healthcare and agriculture.

This is an amazing opportunity for them to innovate and develop products that will enable them to enhance lifestyle using technology.”

Dr. Tushar Jain added, In today’s environment, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the smartness in systems have become an integral part of the products generally purchased from the market and used in daily life. Without that, everything looks to be outdated. IIT Mandi is attempting to make our society conversant by preparing the young generation in this direction for contributing in the nation-building as their long-term goals.”

Top 100 selected students will learn:

1)    Basic Electronics including, microcontrollers, basics of electronics, using sensors, using DC motor, stepper motor and servo motor with microcontroller, network, and Internet of Things (IoT), Wifi and Bluetooth.

 

2)    Basic Programming with basics of any programming language (data types, operators, basic math, conditional statements, loops, functions).

 

3)    Introduction to C++/Python with reference to programming a microcontroller. They will learn to use TinkerCAD to get familiar with programming controllers and the basics of Linux.

 

4)    Fundamental of Machine Learning and AI that will teach students essential applications like object detection, image segmentation, etc.

 

5)    Introduction to Jetson Platform, use of NVIDIA Jetson Nano to use Machine Learning models like YOLO, ResNet, etc. with no prior knowledge of AI.

The summer camp will be conducted in two stages. In stage one, there will be a mentorship-based program by faculties and students. In the second stage, students will get to develop innovative projects. All participants will get certificates upon completion of the training program. Additionally, a competition will be held based on which top three projects will be awarded.

There is no fee for this camp. The students will be provided with hands-on kits assembled at IIT Mandi.

About IIT Mandi

 

IIT Mandi has four Academic Schools and three major Research Centers. The iHub is planned to fuel research and technology development, skill development, startup and innovation, and collaborations in the HCI and allied AI/ML areas in India. IIT Mandi is the only second-generation IIT to be featured at rank no. 7 in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements of the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
