Palampur Traffic Police Faces Accusations of Issuing Fake Challans in Absence of Vehicles

Residents and Tourists Express Concern Over Unauthorized Traffic Citations

In a recent revelation, the Palampur Traffic Police have come under scrutiny for allegedly issuing fake traffic citations in and around the Palampur suburbs, even when vehicles are locked inside garages or when vehicle owners are outside the state.

Numerous complaints filed with “India Reporter Today” have exposed the dubious practices of certain traffic officers, specifically naming Traffic Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Karn Singh, who is alleged to be responsible for these questionable challans. Complaints from both local residents and tourists have raised concerns about the apparent misuse of authority and disregard for due process.

For instance, a motorcycle challan for rash driving was issued near Beracca Sabzi Mandi on September 7, 2023, while the actual vehicle owner and their entire family were in Srinagar.

The motorcycle was safely parked inside their locked home.

When asked for clarification, Karn Singh, the traffic officer responsible for the citation, suggested that there might have been an error in recording the motorcycle’s number.

Despite this, he adamantly stated that the challan would proceed to court. Numerous similar complaints have been reported, leaving the public feeling harassed and fearful of receiving citations for no apparent reason.

In response to these allegations, SP Kangra Ms. Shalini Agnihotri told India Reporter Today, “We take these complaints seriously, and I have ordered a thorough internal investigation into these allegations. We are committed to upholding the principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability in our enforcement actions.”

Responding to the recent allegations of fake traffic citations, SP Kangra, Ms. Shalini Agnihotri, known for her people-friendly, young, energetic, honest, and charming personality, offered insights into the situation. She addressed the concerns with transparency and a commitment to resolving the issues at hand.

Ms. Shalini Agnihotri stated, “I want to reassure the public that the Kangra Police Department is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and fairness. In any law enforcement operation, including the issuance of traffic citations, there can occasionally be inadvertent errors while filling information on the e challan app. Sometimes, the number on vehicles may not be clearly visible, which can result in discrepancies.”

She further emphasized that such cases are taken up individually and carefully verified, ensuring that suitable action is initiated to rectify any genuine errors.

Ms. Agnihotri encouraged individuals who believe they have been subjected to an unjust traffic citation to reach out directly.
