Stormy Skies in Himachal’s Political Paradise
Congress Infighting Casts Shadow Over Himachal's Political Turmoil
RAJESH SURYAVANSHI
Himachal Pradesh, known for its peaceful mountains, is facing a political storm. The Congress party, led by Chief Minister Sukhu, is in charge, but things are far from smooth sailing.
Himachal Pradesh’s idyllic mountains are a stark contrast to the brewing political storm within the ruling Congress party. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu faces challenges despite his party’s majority.
The recent Rajya Sabha loss exposed cracks in the party. Alleged cross-voting by Congress MLAs for the BJP candidate triggered a political firestorm. Six MLAs were expelled, but they’re contesting the decision in court, further muddying the waters.
Finger-pointing is rampant. Congress accuses the BJP of destabilization tactics, while vowing to serve the people. The BJP’s silence only adds to the suspense.
Undeterred by the chaos, CM Sukhu remains committed to his development agenda. However, court battles and the BJP’s next move make Himachal’s future uncertain.
Adding fuel to the fire, the recent dismissal of Sudhir Sharma from his AICC post raises questions about internal Congress unity. State Congress President Pratibha Singh and Vikramaditya Singh’s praise for Sharma, a BJP sympathizer, and Bharatiya Janta Party itself praising for its work culture and it’s comparison with Congress may invite disciplinary action.
Himachal Pradesh navigates turbulent political waters. The coming days will be critical, with the state’s fate hinging on both court rulings and behind-the-scenes political maneuvering.
