Mission Against Corruption Society Chairman Urges CM Sukhu to Mandate Taxi Meters to Combat Overcharging
Shimla, October 30, 2024: Rajesh Suryavanshi, Chairman of the Mission Against Corruption Society, Himachal Pradesh, has appealed to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to enforce mandatory meter installation in all commercial taxis operating within the state. This move, Suryavanshi stated, would help curb the issue of “taxi loot” affecting residents and tourists alike.
With taxi fares varying widely across tourist hubs like Shimla, Manali, and Dharamshala, the absence of standardized fares has led to numerous complaints of overcharging. “Our state attracts tourists year-round, but they often feel exploited by inconsistent fare practices. Installing meters would bring fairness and prevent any exploitation, ensuring Himachal’s reputation as a tourist-friendly destination,” remarked Suryavanshi.
Suryavanshi’s call for action emphasizes the need for transparent fares to improve trust in the local transport system. By setting regulated tariffs and penalties for non-compliance, a metered fare system would align Himachal with best practices seen in other tourist-friendly regions.
Residents and the Mission Against Corruption Society await CM Sukhu’s response, hopeful that this step will protect travelers from unfair pricing and elevate the state’s transport standards.
