Two cases of choledochal cyst operated first time in DRPGMC,Tanda.
In the last one month ,two cases of choledochal cyst were operated for the first time in DRPGMC Tanda by Dr Raj Kumar Sharma ,Professor of Surgery.Choledochal cyst is a congenital defect of bile duct where the duct is not normally formed and is dilated resulting in risk of stone formation in it, jaundice and is high risk for cancer of bile duct.
First patient was 16 years old girl. From Mcleodganj ,who was having pain abdomen for 4 years and was diagnosed as a case of choledochal cyst.Patient was going from one hospital to another ,even PGI Chandigarh repeatedly but was not getting operated.
Two months back she visited the pod of DrRaj Kumar Sharma, Professor of Surgery, who decided to go ahead with operation in this patient. During operation ,it was found that due to repeated pain and swelling the bile duct was densely adherent to the adjoining blood vessels. So it was decided to complete the surgery by Lilly procedure and new bile duct was established using small intestine. The surgery lasting for four hours was successful and new patient is completely well.
Another patient , 29 years old female from Nagrota Dhaba. Aswan suffering from pain abdomen was found to be having stones In the gall bladder along with congenital defect in the bile duct ( Choledochal cyst). This patient was also operated by Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, Professor and his team and during operation gallbladder and bile duct were removed and bile duct was reconstructed using small intestine.
These two operations have been done successfully in the last one month. Dr Amit Dogra ,Dr Raj Kumar Verma , Dr Heena Shar exma, Dr Rahul, DrIrshan Mohammad , Dr Nitin Verma were members of the surgical team of Dr Raj Kumar Sharma.
